Most people really can't handle the Truth
Everyone always talks about truth. Well, face it, we really want just shades of grey when it comes to truth. The white and black version simply hurts because brutal honesty is too much for many to hear. To have their rosy outlook on life, love and the world ripped away to show the stark realities would make life unbearable without the soothing salve of little white lies along the way.
You think I'm spouting nonsense about this? The essence of it is Jack Nicholson in 'A Few Good Men' telling badgering Tom Cruise, 'you can't HANDLE the TRUTH!'. Or my favorite breakdown is by the late Sam Kinison in his 'Breaking the Rules' CD (#1 of 5), relevant part starts about 08:30;
It's the same way with religion, people want to pick and choose what they want to believe, never mind the severe admonitions to take it all and change nothing or be forever damned.
Deuteronomy 4:2:
"Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish [ought] from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you."
Revelation 22:18-9 states:
"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book."
These are the cafeteria christians who should be appalled and horrified with what the bible teaches and cajoles us to practice, and yet they skip over what offends their modern sensibilities.

Assuming you believe such primitive nonsense as the Garden of Eden, consider what you are being asked to take as true fact. A supposed god creates one man and one woman, gives them eternal life to be well taken care of as long as they stay in his garden. They know nothing, they are naked, have no sex, no knowledge, no interest in anything, total retards who were designed and intended to serve as god's personal pets for eternity.
Along comes the serpent, NOT Satan, NOT Lucifer, just a clever animal which could speak. He puts Eve up to eating the brainfood of the forbidden fruit which wisens her up. From that comes knowledge of shame, sex and many other things. God notices the changes and discovers his two favorite pets have broken his rules, are wise to him now and so he kicks them out. They go on to breed and create the human race and all that we have.
Now, who do humans choose to worship and thank but God the slavemaster and psycho controller. Why, when it was THE SERPENT who brought Adam and Eve out of slavery at the cost of immortality and being hand fed for all their lives. So, doesn't it make sense, that if we must choose to worship something, let it be the serpent who brought us all that we know, enjoy and yes, suffer? The forbidden Ophite religion teaches exactly this, but thats another story.
People choose to lie to themselves and each other. It seems to make life more palatable to have a crutch. Here is what Bill Maher has to say about this need to believe in myths and fantasies;
When it comes down to truth versus little white lies, you don't tell your wife or girlfriend that she is fat, pasty, big assed, stupid, vain, etc.. You tell them just the opposite or risk all hell breaking loose because they will not face the truth. The same for your boyfriend, husband, friend, family member where you tell them they are bucktoothed, gotch eyed, short dicked, pimply faced, etc. Instead you GLOSS OVER their imperfections and reinforce it with compliments just to KEEP THE PEACE.
Yes, the world would be a horrible, miserable place if people told the truth all the time. Fights would continually break out, drinking and drug use would prevail as people tried to escape the harsh realities of their lives and conditions, depression and suicides would be the norm, wars and unending damage to payback insults (whether lies or the simple truth) would result.
I wonder how much misery in the world could be circumvented by acknowledging this simple truth of life, that lies lubricate our very existence. People don't want a mirror held up where they are forced to see their own reality. Instead, they want an augmented, virtual reality fantasy where everything in their lives is bright, beautiful, interesting and where your very existence benefits the world as you pass through it.
If thats what it takes, then we should use little white lies at every opportunity to make life easier for everyone to get along and enjoy the journey. It is true that you draw more flies with the sugary sweetness of honey than with the bitter acidity of putrefying shit.
So what does it cost us to spread little white lies around to make people feel good? Sure, we know its mostly bullshit and they are nowhere near what we paint them as but Southerners in the USA have this covered and down to an art by the use of 'Bless her/his heart' appended to all kinds of insults and negative observations, it just makes it go down a bit easier.
Southern lingo isn’t an easy thing to understand. Moving from Florida to Georgia was like entering a whole new world where the natives spoke a language I could barely get my head around. One of these native sayings is "bless her heart".
You see, a native southerner has the ability to insult a person while sounding extremely nice at the same time. You'd almost swear they just commiserated with the person under discussion, which, they probably did. But they also insulted the sin out of them.
Folks in the south say "bless her heart" when they want to say something nasty about someone. They pretty up the nasty thing by making it sound like they're truly in disbelief when really they're not so surprised at all.
For example they might say something like "I just can't believe she left her children and husband and ran off with her brother-in-law" when really they've known about the affair for years and saw the whole thing coming. Then they ALWAYS tack on the phrase "bless her heart". That sort of absolves them from their hateful statement and keeps their way to heaven clear.
Everyone is at risk for this blessing. Its an equal opportunity insult for friends, acquaintances, and politicians. Even someone they know who takes up painting and has a disastrous one woman show at the local American Legion. If her artwork is atrocious someone would likely comment "I'm sure she did her best, bless her heart" which translated from southern speak means "Gosh this 'artwork' is UGLY, what on earth made her waste her time making this clap trap when she should have been home minding her babies and cooking for her husband?"
"Bless his heart, if they put his brain on the head of a pin, it'd roll around like a BB on a six lane highway."
"Bless her heart, she's so bucktoothed, she could eat an apple through a picket fence."
"You know, it's amazing that even though she had that baby 7 months after they got married, bless her heart, it weighed 10 pounds!"
"Bless her heart, though. She got her looks from her daddy's side."
"He fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down, bless his heart."
"Bless her heart, she's so blind, she couldn't see the moon shine."
"She sings like three cats in heat, bless her heart.."
"She actually thinks that outfit looks GOOD, bless her heart."
We shouldn't believe everything we are told or that we read anywhere, on the net or from other sources. It's interesting that people who claim to have seen or come into contact with UFOs, god, ghosts or other such paranormal events, all swear to the veracity of their story. Michael Persinger has found the god spot in the brain which can be electrically or magnetically stimulated to evoke that very experience in anyone.
Then there are experiments showing that paranormal sensations can be evoked in certain conditions as with the 'Shakti Helmet';
Such 'visitations' are experiential and no amount of demands for tangible proof will convince rational non-believers that it was anything other than a dream, hallucination or mistaken attribution of cause on the part of the witness.
The only way we get our information is through our senses, so if we didn't see it or feel it, then its probably not real. That is why we need to rely on metrics (measurements) that can be verified and reproduced to verify the effect or claim wherever possible.
Skepticism in all things, but leave at least a little room for 'miracles' and, at present, unknown 'phenomena' which appears to defy our understanding of the universe.
And yet people do believe these stories and usually embellish them beyond the original report. Unfortunately this leads to cults and religions based on errors and undefined anomalies.
I think there is room for such things but we should always strive for factual, reproducible phenomena and truth as much as we can when it comes to all things, even if it hurts us to hear it.
White lies do make the world go around. It would be a truly miserable life to be 'insulted' with truth at every turn. As long as we recognize the NEED for little white lies to smooth our journey, yet don't succumb to spreading harmful or highly exaggerated 'whoppers', I think the world is made better.

'The Evolution of Matter' and 'The Evolution of Forces' on CD
Years ago, I had been told by several people, that the US government frequently removes books they deem dangerous or 'sensitive' from libraries. Some are replaced with sections removed or rewritten so as to 'contain' information that should not be available to the public despite the authors intent. A key example was during the Manhattan Project when the US was trying to finalize research into atomic bombs. They removed any books that dealt with the subject and two of them were by Dr. Gustave Le Bon since they dealt with both energy and matter including radioactivity. I had been looking for these two books for many years and fortunately stumbled across two copies for which I paid about $40.00 each. I couldn't put down the books once I started reading them. Such a wealth of original discoveries, many not known or remembered today. / Page 88 - Without the ether there could be neither gravity, nor light, nor electricity, nor heat, nor anything, in a word, of which we have knowledge. The universe would be silent and dead, or would reveal itself in a form which we cannot even foresee. If one could construct a glass chamber from which the ether were to be entirely eliminated, heat and light could not pass through it. It would be absolutely dark, and probably gravitation would no longer act on the bodies within it. Guidelines for Alternative Science
